The American Congress of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG) recommends that women should begin cervical cancer screenings with a Pap test at age 21.  These new guidelines are based on data from studies that showed invasive cervical cancer was rare in women under age 21.  For more information, please refer to this ACOG news release.

Cervical cancer is caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), a sexually transmitted disease.  Gardasil® is the first vaccine developed to protect against four (4) strains of HPV, responsible for cervical and other types of cancer, genital warts, and other diseases.  It is administered in three doses over a six-month period to women from 9-to-26 years old.

New guidelines for breast cancer screenings have also been released.  Yearly mammograms are recommended for all women beginning at age 40.  Monthly breast self-exams should also be performed.  For more information, please refer to this ACOG news release.

Heavy, painful, irregular periods do not have to be tolerated.  The NovaSure® procedure is a five (5) minute surgical solution to end your periods.  This procedure may be performed in the office.  Visit the NovaSure® link in our “Resources” section for more information.

Incontinence does not have to be an accepted part of the aging process.  Symptoms such as urinary frequency, urgency, hesitancy, frequent urination at night may be further discussed.  In-office urodynamic studies may be performed for further assessment.  There are a variety of treatment options including in-office pelvic floor muscle therapy and a five (5) minute needle-less surgical procedure.  Visit the Neomedic Needless®System link in our “Resources” section for more information.
